Support For Puy’s Family

Puy had been able to consistently elevate his life throughout the past years. He had been working with his wife Vecheka’s uncle as a roofer for a few years and felt lucky about being able to fully provide for his small family.

Circumstances have become increasingly challenging, however, when Puy’s and Vecheka’s second son was born in 2019 with a medical condition that requires regular inpatient treatment. This has put a heavy burden on the family, as hospital bills are very expensive, and Cambodian families are barely able to afford medical services.

While Puy managed to deal with this situation at first, crisis ultimately struck when Cambodia’s economy was heavily affected by the COVID19 pandemic and Puy found himself out of work. As an orphan, Puy has no familial background to support him during times of financial difficulty.

Please read Puy's story in his own words below:

Hello dear supporters!

My name is Puy and I am 23 years old. I want to tell you a little bit about my situation.

Since COVID19 came to Cambodia I lost my job. It has been very difficult for me to find a new one. So my family and I are struggling a lot with this situation. My son is always sick, so my wife Vecheka has to stay at home and look after him. I worry about him a lot too because he is very weak.

I want to say thank you so much to this NGO for supporting me and my family so much. I hope that COVID19 stops increasing in Cambodia very soon and that I will find work again. Then I can take care of my family by myself again. I don’t want to keep asking for so much support from you, but this year we really needed it to take care of our children.

I wish you all the best and please stay safe, everybody!

Thank you for everything!
In Love,
Puy

Thomlang – Cambodian Youth Support has been supporting Puy, Vecheka, and their two sons since the beginning of the year with financial aid as well as the coverage of their younger son’s medical bills. Furthermore, we encourage Puy to enroll in a Technical School in Phnom Penh. Through obtaining a diploma in his skill, we believe that Puy will better his chances of being employed in the future, as Cambodia’s economy and international job market will continue to grow rapidly and job requirements will become more competitive.
