Meet a Family of Six in Battambang

Many rural communities in Cambodia remain underserved and poverty-stricken. With little to no reliable employment opportunities, an entire generation of people who never had access to education struggles every day to provide for themselves and their families. While major cities undergo rapid development, communities in Cambodia’s provinces are left behind.

In 2025, we were introduced to a family in a village in Battambang: Reasey’s family.

Reasey is a mother of four. While she stays at their humble house, just big enough to shelter the small family, she looks after her children, and her husband, Pho, is on the constant search for work. He manages to help out here and there, sometimes working on fields or on construction sited, but fails to realibly ensure that his family’s needs are met.

The four children, 10-year-old Phara, 8-year-old Mongkol, 6-year-old Pisal, and 5-year-old Piseth, lack the food security that is necessary for their physical and psychological development.

In order to tackle this issue and create a stable environment for the children’s upbringing, Thomlang – Cambodian Youth Support has been supporting Reasey’s family with food assistance, the donations of hygiene products, and the distribution of school supplies and school uniforms for Phara and Mongkol every single month. This way, we hope to ease the burden of hunger off of the family’s shoulders while also pathing the way for the next generation’s educational progress.

Read the following letter that was written by Phara and Mongkol for all of you:

Hello,

My name is Phara and I am writing this letter with my brother’s name is Mongkol. We would like to thank you so much for supporting our studies. We promise to study hard. We don’t want you to be disappointed. In the future, it is my dream to become a doctor, and Mongkol wants to be a police officer.

Thank you for everything. We wish you all the best!
