Khmer New Year 2025

April is always a magical time in Cambodia, as Khmer people celebrate the beginning of the new year according to the Buddhist calendar. It is a time in which lots of festivities, like music concerts and public game competitions, take place in the weeks leading up to the holiday.

On the public holidays from April 14th through April 16th, Cambodians like to participate in traditional ceremonies and customs at their local pagodas. These holidays are nothing short of fun, though, as water fights take place every afternoon during the holidays and people like to throw baby powder on their friends’ and family’s faces.

All of our students had a couple of days off from their busy university schedules and their internships or jobs and got to ring in the new year, which is the Year of the Snake, or the year 2568 BE in the Buddhist calendar.

Take a look at how our students celebrated!
