Ganchena’s University Journey

Since launching Thomlang – Cambodian Youth Support, we have been committed to supporting underprivileged Cambodian students on their unique journeys. We achieve this by listening closely to their individual needs and providing them with various forms of financial support to enable them to overcome obstacles on the one hand, while also responding to their emotional needs on the other hand and providing them with the love, care, and attention that every person needs to achieve their goals.

Ganchena is a now 25-year-old student from rural Kampot whom we have been supporting since founding our organization in 2021. Throughout the years, he has benefited from our help covering his living expenses, rent, and transportation costs, as well as receiving support for English school enrollment at the Australian Center for Education. After losing his parents, Ganchena’s grandparents found themselves unable to care for him. Fortunately, Ganchena was able to grow up in an orphanage and even scored a three-year university internship upon high school graduation. This scholarship, however, ended last year, and we immediately stepped in to continue covering his tuition on top of all the other support that Ganchena needs for his everyday life in Cambodia’s capital.

To all the supporters of Cambodian Youth Support,

My name is Ganchena and I am happy to be one of your students. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you so much for helping me a lot. I am currently studying at the National University of Management in Phnom Penh. The major that I chose is Management because I am very interested in all the subjects that are related to Business, Finance, and Marketing. I hope to be able to work in a company or even a non-profit organization one day. Until then, I want to gain a lot of experience in various fields and already completed several internships.

Now I am already in the fourth year, which means that I will receive my Bachelor’s Degree soon. It is my goal to continue studying for another two years to get a Master’s Degree. I am so lucky to know that you will continue to support me on this journey. This gives me a lot of motivation and hope to keep on going.

Besides university, I also take English classes at the Australian Center for Education three times a week. In the future, it will be really important for me to speak English fluently. Sometimes it is very difficult to learn new vocabulary and grammar, but I always try my best to improve.

I want to thank all the sponsors for helping me to study at NUM, at ACE, and also for paying for my rental room, food, and other daily expenses. It really means a lot to me and I could not do this without you.

Thank you so much!
Best regards,
Ganchena
