Celebrating Chovey’s Graduations

After growing up in an orphanage, Chovey was determined to continue working hard towards a better future. This is where Thomlang – CYS stepped in to support the aspiring businesswoman through university enrollment.

Cambodia’s cities are evolving at a very fast pace, and university degrees, as well as English language fluency, have long become a basic requirement for even entry-level positions. Therefore, it is our top priority to provide mentorship to our students and match their interests and talents with a suitable major, thereby ensuring that they are qualified for future careers in a modern work environment.

First, Chovey was able to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting at the University of Management and Economics in Sihanoukville. Upon graduation, she decided that she wanted to continue her studies in the capital, Phnom Penh. This is where we supported Chovey not only through a Master’s program in Management, but also through English language school enrollment at the Australian Center for Education, one of Cambodia’s most renowned English schools.

Last year, we were incredibly proud to see Chovey successfully pass all her final exams and therefore celebrate not one, but two graduations back to back!

Dear supporters of Thomlang – Cambodian Youth Support,

I would love to say thank you so much for supporting me. I’m really lucky to have you in my life. I would like to share my experience with my Master’s degree studies. I studied at the National University of Management in Phnom Penh for 2 years. It was really hard for me, and sometimes I even felt like I wanted to drop out. But I always pushed myself to continue studying and now I can proudly say that I made it!

My final exam was good and I’m really proud of myself. I had a lot of good classmates, they helped me a lot with studying and motivated me a lot. On my graduation day, I felt very emotional, and it was amazing for me that I officially received my Master’s degree. It’s my biggest achievement so far.

One more thing is about my English class at the Australian Center for Education. I can say it was not easy to study there because it requires a very high level of English, and the teachers are foreigners. It was difficult for me, but I managed to complete it. My results at the end of every term were not as good as I wanted them to be, but I am happy that I never failed. So I’m really happy about it. At the end, I took the IELTS and received my English Proficiency Certificate.

Finally, I’m really proud of myself that I can finish my Master’s degree and ACE class.  It helps me a lot for my work nowadays and in the future. I want to say thank you to Julian for always worrying about me and taking care of my future, that you want me to get good education and made everything possible for me to get a better life in the future. And I want to say thank you to all sponsors for their help. I wish all of you good health and happiness in your life.

Best wishes,
Chovey

Since obtaining her English certificate and Master’s Degree, Chovey has been working in the Marketing and Customer Service department in the headquarters of a successful resort, continuously gaining new experience and improving her knowledge. She makes use of her English skills every single day while working with a variety with international clients and customers. As of now, Chovey is entirely self-sufficient, thanks to the academic avenue that she pursued.

In order to ensure that Chovey can continue to build a better future for herself, and doesn’t get affected by outside stress factors, we continue supporting a number of her relatives through education as well. This way, we are hoping that everybody who plays an important role in her life will reach financial independence, in turn providing an escape from extreme poverty for everyone simultaneously.
