Baby Zana’s Health Insurance

Dina has been raising her daughter Zana as a single mother and has been dependent on her younger sister Chovey’s support throughout the past two years. In our previous post, we introduced you to her story. We were able to empower Dina in taking on her first job since motherhood through the donation of a moto that allowed her to commute to and back from work safely.

You can read our previous blog post and a personal letter from Dina here:

It is Dina’s goal to become financially independent, to be able to provide for baby Zana, and to save money for her daughter’s future.

Dina started her job as a waitress at a restaurant in rural Cambodia in early 2021 and received a salary of 125$ every month. She has since proven to stay true to her words and has already started to conquer her goals. We assisted her in opening a savings account at a local bank as well as enrolling in a children’s health insurance plan from Prudential Insurance Company.

Dina pays 30$ into her daughter’s health insurance package every month and gets full coverage for her in return. If baby Zana falls ill, she will receive free treatment at a hospital, which is extremely rare in Cambodia.

If Zana doesn’t need any medical treatment before her 15th birthday, Dina will get the full payment of 5000$ returned, which she could then invest in her daughter’s education.

This is truly a great plan and speaks volumes about Dina’s commitment, dedication, and problem-solving skills.

Unfortunately, just like millions of others, Dina has been heavily affected by the Corona pandemic and has lost her job in spring as COVID case numbers spiked in South-East-Asia and Cambodians went into their first-ever full lockdown. CYS was able to support Dina and baby Zana by covering their health insurance payment of 30$ every month since then.

Dear supporters of Thomlang – Cambodian Youth Support,
Dear brother Julian,

I would like to tell you about my current situation: I bought the insurance package for my daughter when I had a job and a salary. I thought it was a brilliant way to save money for my baby and to get help in case she ever faces any health issues. Sadly, I lost my job 4 months ago because of COVID19.

Thank you so much for your support. Thank you so much for helping me to pay for my daughter’s health insurance. I don’t know when I will be able to get a job again. COVID19 increases in Cambodia every day. But I promise that I will do my best to find a way to work again.

Zana’s birthday was on the 23rd of this month. She turned 2! My wish is that she stays healthy. And my wish for the future is, that the insurance that I bought will help me to pay for good education for her. I want my daughter to become a good person, to be well-educated, and to have a future, where she never has to face any issues. I want her to have a better life than I have had.

Once again, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart that you continue to support me in finding stability and opportunity to provide for my baby.

I wish you all the best and I hope that everyone is staying safe.
Best wishes,
Dina
