Helping A Single Mother Get To Work

Dina’s partner left her midway through her pregnancy. Suddenly, she was a single parent, with no way to support herself. She reached out to her sister Chovey for aid, and she immediately took her in, providing a safe space for the single mother to raise her daughter, Zana, and thereby becoming the sole financial provider for this small family. This has been the case for the past two years.

Now that Zana is 1,5 years old, Dina has felt very determined to rejoin the workforce. She desires to be able to provide for her daughter and to lift weight off of Chovey’s shoulders after having had to rely on her for so long. However, Dina did not receive a formalized education, which left her with fewer job prospects. She found a job at a restaurant, but the fact that she didn’t have a moto made her commute by foot difficult and dangerous.

Please read her story in her own words:

Hello everybody!

My name is Dina and I am 27 years old.

I have one daughter. Her name is Zana. She will turn 2 in July. My husband and I have been separated since 2019. I didn’t have a job so I have been staying with my sister Chovey. She helps me and my daughter with everything.

Now Zana is big enough that I can go find a job. On January 26th I got a job as a waitress. Now I will have a salary of 125$ every month. But my workplace is a little bit far away. It is okay for me to walk there, but I work until very late at night. So I need a motorbike because it is dangerous for me to walk back from work at night.

I work from 8 am to 10:30 pm. I’m very happy that I got this job because now I can earn some money. I can reduce the expenses from my sister and I will save money so that Zana can go to school when she is older. I want her to study and get a lot of education. I want her to have a better life than me. I will try my best to support her to study and have a good future.

So I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help with everything. This NGO allows me to take better care of my daughter.

I hope that all of you are staying safe, I wish you good luck and good health.

Best wishes,
Dina

Through your support, we were able to provide Dina with a motorbike and ensure that she comes home safely to her daughter every night.
