Saratna’s Part-Time Job

Thomlang – Cambodian Youth Support’s initiatives do not only include various forms of financial aid, but also individual mentorship and guidance. It is one of our top priorities to coach young Cambodians in every aspect that will help them navigate through adulthood in a modern and ever-changing Cambodia.

Saratna is a first-year Marketing student who was motivated to find a part-time job in order to gain some work experience and to start saving money for her future. After growing up in an orphanage, with little familial background to support her during adulthood, she needs to start taking these important steps in order to set herself up for a promising future.

CYS was able to guide Saratna through the entire process, starting with creating an e-mail address, writing her resume, and applying for jobs. This was followed up by mentoring her through her first job interview and ultimately led to shared excitement when she landed a position as a cashier at a small coffee shop.

In addition to guiding Saratna through the process of finding her first job, CYS was also able to assist her in opening up her first bank account.

This part-time job will allow Saratna to learn important lessons about time management, money management, and work ethic while still allowing her to focus on her studies at the National University of Management.
