Preparing Kompheak for High School

Kompheak is a 13-year-old boy who currently attends 9th grade in Secondary School. He currently lives on his own, since his mother had to move to Phnom Penh to work at a plastic factory after his father’s passing. She earns 150$ a month, which is insufficient to properly provide for herself and her son. Furthermore, she struggles with health issues and is therefore barely able to make ends meet. The family lacks the necessary resources to cover Kompheak’s education.

The house in rural Kampot, that Kompheak lives in, does not provide a safe space for the young boy. It is deteriorating, slowly falling apart and the roof is unstable, allowing rain to leak inside during rainstorms that occur on a daily during raining season in Cambodia.

Thomlang – Cambodian Youth Support currently supports Kompheak with the coverage of education-related costs, that will ensure that the boy gets proper education and will be able to continue his studies through high school. We are planning to support him with moving to the Don Bosco student dorm in Kep once he completes 9th grade later this year, a dorm that will not only provide a safe space for him to live in but also surround him with children his age, which is important for his personal development.
